A World Of Adventures Review

A World Of AdventuresWhere were toys like this when I was a kid? HABA's games are created by people who really understand the way children think and allow imaginations to soar. They're creative, original, and non-toxic. I would have gone crazy for this game and I have to say, even as an adult I am enchanted by it.I admit I am a bit of a Europhile, and I've yet to see anything from Haba that I don't like, so I'm biased. If you have a desire to get away from corporatey feeling toys and make sure your kid is playing with safe materials, their stuff fits the bill big time.

HABA's A World of Adventures is actually comprised of four games which can be played individually or together as "The Great Adventure." Two of the games are more difficult and each take between five and ten minutes to play. All of the components are absolutely beautiful to look at.

The first game, Journey Through the Jungle, takes you through the jungles of South America where you'll encounter ancient Inca temples using color recognition. Game two, Expedition to Antarctic, utilizes memory skills to travel across a treacherous ice desert as the adventurers try to make it to the igloo. The third game, High Above the Ravine, a dice game where the goal is to get across the dangerous bridge and make it to camp. The last game, Across the Volcanoes, where players hurl wooden raindrops at the volcano while getting across the terrain as quickly as possible.

The peices are wooden figures that your child might want to play with outside of this game, they are extremely well made and attractive. The boards are like works of art. This is one of the most visually appealing board game I've ever seen.

I highly recommend A World of Adventures. If you get one new game this year, consider this one. This game is educational, embraces different cultures, geographic themes, and the spirit of adventure and travel as well as utilizing cognitive skills. I can't say enough good things about it. Way exceeded expectations!

Pyramid Review

PyramidI don't understand why the recommended age for these blocks is so low. I don't think a small child would be capable of assembling the design or understand what they were doing.

My 7 year old received these for Christmas and has put the pyramid together five times in two days - it's his favorite present. I think it's appropriate for kids up to age 11 or so - very educational as you have to explore the engineering through the shapes as you are building. He became very interested in Egytians and the pyramids as he was building and was really in awe of the design.

One caution - I ended up putting numbers on the bottom of the blocks, so that he could follow the directions himself- some of the pieces look similar.

I am an educator and was keeping track of all the great thinking skills involved in this activity - I definitely recommend it.

Quart Pouring Pitcher Review

Quart Pouring PitcherThis pitcher is durable and the perfect size for tiny hands. The well proportioned handle allows my 4 and 5 year old to pour with confidence.Because of it's strong plastic material, it also holds up when the occasional yet inevitable accidents occur. My kids love pouring work at their Montessori School and this is a wonderful tool to have at home to help the children gain self confidence and practice practical life skills. They love having their "own" water pitcher!
