I jumped the gun a little and bought these blocks when my son was about 8mo old. Even though this toy is recommended for kids of about one year, my son still spent considerable time examining the cubes and mouthing them. What I like about blocks in general though, is that they can grow with your child - add different shapes and colors later on and the kid can build so many things with them for a very long time. The educational value of blocks is very great, because they can become whatever your child imagines them to be, as opposed to the toys already shaped as objects.
