A World Of Adventures Review

A World Of AdventuresWhere were toys like this when I was a kid? HABA's games are created by people who really understand the way children think and allow imaginations to soar. They're creative, original, and non-toxic. I would have gone crazy for this game and I have to say, even as an adult I am enchanted by it.I admit I am a bit of a Europhile, and I've yet to see anything from Haba that I don't like, so I'm biased. If you have a desire to get away from corporatey feeling toys and make sure your kid is playing with safe materials, their stuff fits the bill big time.

HABA's A World of Adventures is actually comprised of four games which can be played individually or together as "The Great Adventure." Two of the games are more difficult and each take between five and ten minutes to play. All of the components are absolutely beautiful to look at.

The first game, Journey Through the Jungle, takes you through the jungles of South America where you'll encounter ancient Inca temples using color recognition. Game two, Expedition to Antarctic, utilizes memory skills to travel across a treacherous ice desert as the adventurers try to make it to the igloo. The third game, High Above the Ravine, a dice game where the goal is to get across the dangerous bridge and make it to camp. The last game, Across the Volcanoes, where players hurl wooden raindrops at the volcano while getting across the terrain as quickly as possible.

The peices are wooden figures that your child might want to play with outside of this game, they are extremely well made and attractive. The boards are like works of art. This is one of the most visually appealing board game I've ever seen.

I highly recommend A World of Adventures. If you get one new game this year, consider this one. This game is educational, embraces different cultures, geographic themes, and the spirit of adventure and travel as well as utilizing cognitive skills. I can't say enough good things about it. Way exceeded expectations!

Monza - by HABA Review

Monza - by HABAI bought this game for my 4 1/2 year old son because he loves anything that has to do with cars.It turns out my husband and I both love playing it with him because it is a little bit more challenging than other board games of this type, like Candy Land.In this game, you have a race track with 3 lanes and each lane has colored squares in it that are staggered with the squares in the lane next to it.Each player rolls 6 colored dice. You advance your car by matching the colored dice with the same colored squares that are adjoined to the square your car is on.Sometimes your roll can give you different routes to take on the track and you have to figure out which sequence of dice will get your car the furthest around the track. After reading the directions, I thought it might be too advanced for my son, but he picked it up pretty quickly and likes playing it and the game is interesting enough for adults too.

Lets Go Shopping! - by HABA Review

Lets Go Shopping - by HABAIf you have a child that is not into sharing this game is GREAT.In a fun and enjoyable environment it teaches that it's not only good to share but fun too.You pick a card and from the pile of food items they have to recognize and obtain the item on the card. Now, here is the sharing part, if someone already has the item they have to give it up.Items usually change hands several times. We had cousins that we really had problems with when it came to sharing toys. So, we took this game one step further and timed the games to see how fast we could go through the cards. It left little time to think about what had to be given up and always seemed to end in laughing and more sharing than the game called for.I love the real solid wood pieces. I will keep this game forever. Will be a great game for grandchildren....

Sleepy Princess and the Pea Review

Sleepy Princess and the PeaSleepy Princess and the Pea is a beautiful game for children ages 3-12. It is made by Haba toys, a German toy manufacturer that makes games and toys using real materials like wood and fabric to produce top-quality products that will make any parent and every child happy.

Sleepy Princess is based on the classic fairy tale where a disheveled young girl shows up at a palace one rainy night and claims to be a princess. The queen tests her by putting her in a bed with dozens of mattresses, pillows and blankets beneath her and a tiny pea buried beneath them all. If she is a real princess, thinks the queen, she will be so delicate that she will feel the discomfort of the pea beneath the huge pile of bedding. Of course, the princess passes the test and is rewarded with the prince of the palace's hand in marriage.

This game is a relatively simple game, all the players have to do is stack the provided mattresses on top of the pea without allowing them to tumble. Children do not need to be able to read to play this game, but it will help them develop their fine motor skills and the cooperative version of the game does away with the winner/loser sensibility that so many American children's games have.

Children will find the charming concept and fun and colorful game pieces (including the adorable wooden princess doll) irresistable. This game is particularly enticing for children who are studying Waldorf or Montessori methods of education, where tactile learning is encouraged.

Animal Yahtzee - by HABA Review

Animal Yahtzee - by HABAYes, this game is very small. All of the pieces fit inside the tin, which is used as the cup for the dice, which is a brilliant idea. My three girls 3,5, and 11 all enjoy this game. My younger two don't understand the scoring aspect, but still enjoy this game; while my 11 year old is able to understand the scoring and pick the best use of her rolls. We are a gaming family, and play a game before bedtime every night. We play this game probably once every other week, it's not an absolute favorite but still well liked. However, my youngest is fairly sensitive to sound, this game is pretty loud (shaking wooden dice in a tin can!) Otherwise, we would probably play it more often.

Product Description:
Animal Yahtzee is a charming game for children ages 3 years and up. You will love the colorful tin case (perfect for storage and travel) and child-friendly design of the dice. Counting animals on the dice is undoubtedly more fun for young children than counting dots on traditional dice! Roll the dice, count how many of each animals are face up and add up the points. Whoever has the most points at the end wins! Play with 2 - 4 players.
